Jambo The Gentle giant

The Jambo collection pays tribute to a very special primate who became famous the world over in 1986 for protecting a five-year-old child, Levan Merritt, who fell 12 feet into the gorilla enclosure at Jersey Zoo.

Much to the amazement of onlookers, instead of attacking the child, the male silverback inspected him. It remained beside his unconscious body in a protective gesture that kept the other gorillas at bay. He later caressed the seemingly lifeless child. When the boy regained consciousness and started to cry, Jambo and the other gorillas retreated, enabling a paramedic and two zoo keepers to rescue him.
