Created using Jersey’s famous Ormer shell set in a 925 sterling silver Corbiere lighthouse with oxidised silver doors and windows to accentuate the extra detail on our famous landmark. The silver is also coated with rhodium for a longer-lasting shine. The stone size is 4 x 13mm. The pendant size is 20 x 14mm. It comes on an 18-inch box chain.
Corbière Lighthouse is one of the first sights to greet visitors to Jersey as they pass it on the ferry. Channel Island waters are notoriously dangerous, but the lighthouse comes as a relief, sparking the local phrase “avons pâssé La Corbiéthe” (we’ve passed La Corbière), meaning “the worst is over”.
The name Corbière itself means ‘place where the crows gather’.
Jersey Ormer shell is an authentic piece of Jersey’s heritage and contains a naturally beautiful rainbow-coloured mother of pearl. Ormer shells were used in the 18th & 19th centuries to make English furniture and ornaments. You will still find the Ormer shell in many Jersey households, used for its beauty as decorative pieces.
